Saying Good-Bye

Hey y'all! Hope everything is great for everyone! First off thank you to everybody for the intial support to starting this blog and I hope y'all become followers! Now I can't help but wonder as this school year comes to an end for me how hard it will be to say good-bye to the familiar. I know I'm not good with good-byes but that also brings me to the thought when should an athlete stop and say good-bye.

I know the first thought is Brett Farve......I mean come on the man retired more times than most people who are 30 years older than him but he kept coming back! He really didn't know when to stop. Now Brett Farve was a pretty great quarterback (that's hard for me to admit, trust me!) but the man's numbers can't lie. He set so many records and was accurate most of the time. Though he threw MULTIPLE interceptions but for as many interceptions he threw just as many touchdowns, so it was balanced.

Also, Shaquille O'Neal is a thought to me. I feel like once he was let go from the Lakers (Thanks Kobe..... RETIRE). However he never really played the same like he did at LA. There comes a point when you peak and you should leave will you are still remembered as pure excellence. Though most people will remember Shaq for his Laker days not many will think of Shaq as a Celtic or the Heat. I think I'll choose not too.

Now the list can go on and on about athletes who need to retire and simply say good-bye to their sport but by saying good-bye they lose the automatic security and glory that comes from playing sports. I hate to say it but my boy Tim Duncan was looking pretty old out there during the play-offs (love you TD). Even coaches have a difficulty leaving this life. Like the coach from Ohio State, Jim Tressel, he should quit now before his reputation is tarnished even more and they still remember him as a great coach. Even LA Laker coach Phil Jackson retired once then came back and now is retiring again after a large upset for the Lakers in the playoffs.

That brings up a good thought THANK YOU DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I still hate you I am glad my house is spotless due to your CLEAN SWEEP of the Lakers! I love when the Lakers fail miserably, it brings happiness to my heart!

How 'bout them THUNDERRR. Triple overtime victory, home court advantage back, tied 2-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said earlier, I FIRMLY believe the Thunder can and WILL win the playoffs. So come on boys lets keep this THUNDERstorm rolling! THUNDER UP!

So as many know  I really hate Texas and the following is a joke I made about being a Longhorn Fan....Enjoy!
As I was walking to class today I was with my friend and he said Sarah there are worse things you could be in life.....like a mass murderer. My immediate response was................or a TEXAS FAN.

First Blog!

Hey y'all! My name is Sarah and I love sports! I am an aspiring sports broadcast journalist so I decided to share my views with the world.....best to get a headstart. So first my favorite teams (you will notice I play a bit of favoritism when it comes to them) :
NCAA FOOTBALL
-Oklahoma Sooners
NFL
-St. Louis Rams
-Dallas Cowboys
NCAA BASKETBALL
-Oklahoma Sooners
NBA
-San Antonio Spurs
-Oklahoma City Thunder
MLB
-St. Louis Cardinals

I guess I have a mild variety but I definately have my teams and support them all the way! But I mostly love football, it is easily my favorite sport. Basketball and Baseball are really only interesting at the end of the season and right before play offs......don't try to deny it, you know it's the truth!

So today I was reading Fox Sports News and I discovered the writing of Jason Whitlock who I think is a great reporter after reading some of his pieces. I was especially intrigued by an article he did on Rashard Mendenhall of the Pittsburgh Steelers. People are really giving Mendenhall a lot of grief for his tweets he put after but I feel like he is just as entitled to say how he feels (If you read the article I post below you will read the full story, I'll let Jason Whitlock say it, he does it better).

I was also pleased to read on Fox Sports News that they consider Bob Stoops of the Oklahoma Sooners to be the 2nd best college football coach and Mack Brown of Texas was number 5 and Les Miles of Lousiana State University (formerly Oklahoma State University) is number 9!! Although to me I feel like Stoops should be number 1 but I accept that they believe Nick Saban of Alabama is the best. I agree, Saban is an amazing coach but Stoops is BETTER but that's just my opinion. I do love being ranked above Mack Brown and Les Miles though! :)

As most of you know the Lakers are down in their series with the Mavericks 3-0 and no NBA team has ever come back to win their series when they are down by 3. It's only happend in the MLB in 2004 with the Red Sox and a lot of NHL teams so we may as well see the Lakers as WELL DONE. I hope everyone is pleased to know the Thunder are tied in their series with the Grizzlies, I feel like the Thunder will win it all. THUNDER UP!

Until next time,

The Aspiring Sports Reporter, Sarah!
